A federal appeals court panel ruled that Donald Trump isn’t immune from prosecution in his 2020 election interference case, just days after prosecutors publicly fretted the court was taking too long.
In its decision, the court said that whatever protections Trump may have had from prosecution as president, they no longer held now that he was a private citizen. They gave him until Monday to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.
The prosecution is frozen until the appeals process runs out, so the case will continue to be delayed while Trump appeals. Prosecutors have said they’re concerned the delays will push the trial into election season or even past it.
