No, we aren’t. The reasoning is simple. Once we became a nation, the people here, at that time, became citizens, not immigrants.
We declared our independence from England on July 4, 1776. We won our independence on September 3, 1783.
The Articles of Confederation were ratified on February 2, 1781.
The U.S. Constitution was ratified on June 21, 1788.
The first immigration law – The Naturalization Act of 1790 (H.R. 40) – was passed in March 4, 1790
