Everyone Is Missing The Point Of Signalgate

By now, you know that Trump’s National Security Advisor included The Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg on a Signal group chat that included top officials from the Trump administration and openly discussed battle plans for attacking Yemen’s Houthi rebels. However, there are a few things that need to be corrected.

I had to call out a Washington Post reporter who pushed a blatant lie, claiming that Signal was “lightly used among federal bureaucrats.” Actually, I have not been able to have a conversation with almost anyone in DC over the past decade without using Signal. It’s a widely used app and is quite secure, unless you add a prominent reporter to your highly classified group chat.

Aside from the strange phenomenon of middle-aged white men using emojis, all of these private texts appear to suggest that these people are the same behind the scenes as they are in public. JD Vance genuinely doesn’t like the European Union. Mike Waltz and Pete Hegseth believe the US is the only superpower that can protect international shipping.

But the larger issue not being discussed is that the only reason we are in this position is because Joe Biden had ample opportunity to defeat the Houthis and instead, removed them from the terror watch list. And the same media pundits berating the White House over the groupchat mistake repeatedly chose to ignore fumbles from the previous administration. It’s a double standard
