Former Sen. Alan Simpson Dead at 93

Former Wyoming Sen. Alan Simpson, a moderate conservative known for his wit, bipartisan outreach, and immigration reform, died Friday at 93.

Simpson, who served as a Wyoming senator from 1979 to 1997, was a key figure in rallying GOP senators around the party’s agenda, known for his caustic views, humor, and tackling tough issues. He received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2022.

After leaving the Senate, Simpson taught at Harvard University and the University of Wyoming, urging students to be politically involved.

Former President George W. Bush called Simpson “one of the finest public servants ever to have graced our nation’s capital.”
