Former Germantown State Senator Brian Kelsey is trying to stay out of jail, court documents read. Kelsey asked a judge to throw out his conviction because the government illegally threatened another lawmaker to make him testify.
This news comes days after the Supreme Court decided not to take up his appeal in the same case.
Kelsey pleaded guilty to federal campaign finance violations in 2022. He attempted to withdraw the guilty plea months later but wasn’t allowed to and was sentenced to 21 months in Federal Prison.
Kelsey − a former lawyer − told a judge that he should have been released because he didn’t fully understand the law.
