Gary Varvel: Can Trump deliver on his plan to fix USPS?

USPS reported a $9.5 billion net loss for fiscal 2024, despite year-over-year growth in revenue and a reduction in its controllable expenses. The agency saw a $6.5 billion loss in FY 2023. President Trump said he wants “a post office that works well and doesn’t lose massive amounts of money.”

Trump has mentioned privatizing the Postal Service but has given no specifics. The Democrats responded with hyperbolic claims that Trump’s plan “risks cutting off rural delivery and worsening service for all.”

PERSONAL NOTE: I hate to say this but since I started my freelance business 5 years ago, I have shipped hundreds of packages and I learned the hard way, that I have to insure everything I ship. Why? Because USPS occasionally loses my shipments and has to pay me back.

Indianapolis recently opened a new distribution center on the east side of the city and they must have built it on top of a black hole because they are getting so many complaints from customers of mail being lost once it arrives at that facility.

Contrary to what the Democrats say, USPS is broke. Perhaps Trump can fix it. It’s worth a try.
