Disney went woke and went broke, plus a spiritual transformation
Gary Varvel
The Nanny-State is at it again. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is proposing a new requirement for intelligent speed assistance technology in all new cars.
This decision was inspired by a 2022 high-speed fatal crash in North Las Vegas, Nevada, that resulted in nine fatalities.
My cartoon is an exaggeration. No one is suggesting that this technology would call the police…well, not yet. But the NTSB’s priority is to federally mandate speed limiters (governors) built into cars.
Just as your GPS can alert you when you’re traveling over the speed limit, this new technology will warn you. I imagine that if you don’t get off of the accelerator, the car’s computer, probably named HAL 9000, will say, “I’m sorry, Dave. I’m afraid I can’t do that” just like in the movie, “2001: A Space Odyssey.” What could possibly go wrong?
