Gary Varvel: ICC’s Barney Fife moment

The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and some Hamas leaders. The ICC has no authority over sovereign nations. And there is no moral equivalence between terrorists who intentionally rape and slaughter women, behead babies and torture of innocent victims and the casualties of war from Hamas using human shields.

PROPHECY OF JERUSALEM

Zechariah 12:2-3 says, ““Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of drunkenness to all the surrounding peoples, when they lay siege against Judah and Jerusalem. And it shall happen in that day that I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone for all peoples; all who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it.”

Why are the nations surrounding Jerusalem, Israel so obsessed with that land?

The prophet Zechariah prophesied that they would happen over 2500 years ago and we are watching the beginning of this amazing fulfillment in our generation. God told Zechariah to record that “in that day,” He will make Jerusalem a “cup of drunkenness to all the surrounding peoples.”

The people surrounding Israel today are Muslim and they are intoxicated with Jerusalem. But it wasn’t always that way.

During the centuries when Jerusalem was under Arab control, there was an indifference to the city. No Arab ruler or Muslim leader made it an object of religious pilgrimage. Muslim ruler Abd el-Malik built the Dome of the Rock between 688–691 AD on the site where the first and second Jewish Temples were located. The obvious motivation to build on this site was to prevent the rebuilding of the Third Jewish Temple prophesied in Daniel 9 and Revelation 13.

Another sign of this intoxication with Jerusalem is that Muslims claim that it is the third holiest site in Islam although Jerusalem is never mentioned in the Koran. Why?

Well, Muslims believe that Muhammed allegedly ascended into heaven from the Dome of the Rock — another claim not mentioned in the Koran. This myth was invented by Yasser Arafat’s uncle – Haj Amin el-Husseini, who was the past Grand Mufti of Jerusalem. This story aroused Arab passions against the growing Jewish presence in Jerusalem during the 1920’s and 1930’s. This animosity grew resulting in 8 major wars since Israel became a nation in 1948.

In the last 76 years, the Palestinians have rejected 6 land for peace plans. Why? Because the Palestinians want all of Israel including Jerusalem.

The current war with Hamas is just one of the birth pains that Jesus said would come before He returns. This is a spiritual war that has produced worldwide anti-Semitism. The Bible says in the end times this hatred for the Jews will get worse and worse. Zechariah said, “all nations of the earth are gathered against it (Jerusalem).” This is the bad news.
