MONEY MADNESS
Since 2021, the NIL (Name, Image and Likeness) has allowed college athletes to receive financial compensation. Now the game is all about ‘Show Me The Money.”
- NIL collectives, in which boosters and donors raise money to fund student athletes
- Endorsement deals with products and services, cash in on social media, and get paid for such things as making personal appearances and signing autographs.
- Entrepreneurial services – college athletes are starting their own wealth-building businesses and brands.
In other words, the game has become — Money Ball.
The portal allows players to seek more money from other teams. Therefore, as coach Steve Alford explains below, many teams will have to replace 8 or 9 players every year. This breaks down team unity and loyalty.
