PINSON, Tenn. — Many golfers tee’d it up Monday morning for a great cause.
The weather did not stop many people from coming out to Woodland Hills Golf and Country Club for a full day of a golf tournament. Starting at 8 a.m. and going all day long, people are swinging their clubs and having a good time. But, it is all for a great cause.
“All of our proceeds go to St. Jude,” said Rob Deloach, chair, Red Cap Classic. “They’re our big philanthropy for Farm Bureau for the last three years. We’ll hit the million dollar for giving to St. Jude for the state the last three years, this year. But we’ve hosted this golf tournament, like I said the third annual.”
If you’ve ever been to a golfing fundraiser, you know they always have prizes and gifts to give out. That is no different at this one for St. Jude. However, some of the prizes they have are super special and very unique.
“So we’ve got a representative from St. Jude that comes and hangs out with us all day,” said Deloach. “She’s brought two golf bags to donate, but she’s also brought two towels that the kids designed for the golf tournament that they had down there. She’s brought a couple of those to give away today. That’s really neat because that warms your heart and makes it all worth it when you see what the kids do.”
With this being the third year, the crowd is bigger and better than it’s ever been. The crowd is just going to keep growing year after year, and we talked a little bit about why that might be.
“It’s for St. Jude. I tell people all the time, that if you ever pay one visit down there, then coming out here is minuscule,” Deloach said. “You know the work you put in for the kids, to know those patients don’t pay a dime.”
There were over 40 teams present– 160 golfers.
With so many golfers, they had to be split into two groups. The first group started at 8 a.m. and the second group began at 1 p.m.
