Israel plans to reoccupy 25% of Gaza over the next two to three weeks as part of a renewed ground campaign aimed at forcing Hamas to release hostages, an official said Monday.

The renewed ground operation follows a breakdown in cease-fire talks and has already triggered new evacuations, including in Rafah.

If no new deal is reached, officials say the operation could expand further, potentially displacing most of Gaza’s 2 million residents.

Israel is demanding the release of 11 living hostages and the remains of 16 others, rejecting Hamas’ latest counteroffer.
