Just How Red is Tennessee

Nashville has joined three other cities in suing the federal government after $11.4 billion in pandemic-era public health funding was abruptly cut last month.

The lawsuit accuses HHS and the CDC of unlawfully terminating grants that supported vaccinations, infectious disease testing, and homeless outreach.

Nashville officials warn that the lost funding has already led to layoffs, canceled programs, and heightened risks of vaccine-preventable disease outbreaks.

The city is seeking to restore funding, arguing that the cuts undermine long-term public health efforts Congress intended after COVID-19.
