The U.S. economy added 177,000 jobs in April, beating expectations, while the unemployment rate remained at 4.2% amid uncertainty over Trump administration trade policies.
The stock market rose on the upbeat jobs report, with the S&P 500 jumping 1.47% and recovering all losses since April 2. The Dow also rose 564.47 points, and the Nasdaq gained 1.51%.
President Trump praised the strong economic news on social media, calling it part of his economic plan’s transition stage and urging the Federal Reserve to lower interest rates.
Another piece of positive economic news arrived Friday as China’s Commerce Ministry said officials were reviewing a U.S. offer to hold tariff talks.
