The Memorial Day weekend has long been thought of as the unofficial start to the summer season. For those of you not traveling or cooking out, we’ve put together a few patriotic television streaming options to help you relax and get into the spirit of the holiday.
The streaming service Max features two Flyover staff favorites, Band of Brothers and The Pacific. Both are WWII war dramas and follow the experiences of troops in European and Pacific theaters of the global conflict. The realism is enhanced by the attention to detail and superb acting.
Blockbusters Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick can be found on Paramount Plus. While the films lack the realism of Band of Brothers and The Pacific, the movies are filled with action, fun and brief moments of awe.
The top streaming option recommended by the staff was The Great Escape (one of my personal favorites). It is universally loved in the office and combines elements of drama, comedy, realism, and fun.
It is based on a true story where during the night of 24 March 1944, 76 airmen escaped from the Prisoner of War camp Stalag Luft III. Only three made it home and, of the remainder, 50 were murdered on Hitler’s orders. You can find The Great Escape on Amazon Prime Video.
