Marjorie Taylor Green, the serial adultering Congresswoman from Georgia, has filed a Motion to Vacate the Chair to oust Speaker Mike Johnson, the first pro-life evangelical movement conservative Speaker in American history.
Greene, a MAGA populist, and many conservatives are frustrated by the continuing resolution that increases government funding.
The reality is that conservatives will win nothing in a two-seat majority, notably when voters in districts nominated a bunch of Republicans who could not win those districts in 2022.
Conservatives and populist rabble-rousers like Greene should try to win elections and grow their majority.
Instead, the populists want to oust another Speaker and, if they did and Johnson resigned, they could move the House ever closer to Democrat control.
Conservatives put an actual conservative in the Speaker’s Chair for the first time in forever but are mad he cannot deliver them the results they’ve been denied by Republicans nominating terrible candidates who lost elections in 2022. Now, the populists, who pretend to be conservatives, want to oust the man and send out fundraising emails because the populists don’t care if they are in the majority or minority.
I understand the frustration over the budget and share it. Still, in the real world, the Democrats and moderate Republicans outnumber the conservatives and populists so significantly that there’s nothing the conservatives and populists can do.
And by attempting to oust the Speaker, whom moderate Republicans and Democrats will save, the populists have just now taken the first pro-life evangelical movement conservative Speaker and made him beholden to those who will save him.
This is why our side keeps losing. The populist Republicans continually confuse tactics for strategy and consistently snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
