Mountain View, Colorado Council Member Accused in Shooting Recalled

Brent John Metz, a Mountain View town councilman accused of shooting a teenager in the face in September 2024, was removed from his position in a special election on Tuesday.

Metz has pleaded not guilty to charges including second-degree assault, felony menacing, and illegal discharge of a firearm. His attorneys claim the shooting was accidental, caused by a misfire as he retrieved his gun from his truck.

The 17-year-old and another teen said they were looking for a place to take homecoming photos when they hopped the property’s fence, planning to ask permission from the homeowner. Metz was recalled in a vote of 127-72. He’ll be succeeded by council candidate Ryan Debner.
