Museum Donation Faces Uncertain Future

Clayton Homes founder Jim Clayton has withdrawn a $150 million donation to construct a new science museum in Knoxville but indicated he still plans to build one in the future.

Knoxville Mayor Indya Kincannon expressed her disappointment publicly after Clayton withdrew his donation to build the new museum at the site of the former Knoxville Police headquarters.

Clayton called the mayor’s statement surprising and added that “a great science museum is in our future.” No explanation was given for the withdrawal of the donation.
