My Initial Response to NV SOS’ “Sucker Punch”

TO:  Nevada Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar
FROM: Chuck Muth, President, Citizen Outreach
DATE: August 28, 2024

Cisco, I know you’re going to see this.

If you’re not on my email list, someone on your staff or a political ally is.

And they will have it forwarded to you.

I hope you like movie references…

I know what you did last night.

You know what I’m talking about.

Your decision and directive yesterday were bad enough.

But you didn’t even extend to us the courtesy of advance notice, let alone discuss it before making your decision.

You sucker-punched us.

Even though we’ve kept your office advised of everything we were doing.

As Mel Gibson said to Danny Glover in Lethal Weapon

     “l’m p*ssed now, Rog. Now I’m p*ssed.”

From the time I launched the Pigpen Project to help clean up Nevada’s dirty voter rolls, I’ve operated under Patrick Swayze’s “Dillon Rule” from Roadhouse

“Be nice…until it’s time to not be nice.”

Well, it appears it’s time to not be nice.

We did our homework.

We tried playing by the rules.

We tried doing everything by the book.

We dotted every *i* and crossed every *t.*

Indeed, unlike those who went on the warpath after the 2020 general election, I’ve painstakingly (and painfully) read the law.

The statutes.

The administrative codes.

The processes.

The procedures.

And we have followed them.

We’ve operated in a totally professional, transparent, and non-partisan fashion.

We haven’t irresponsibly yelled “fraud” without evidence.

We haven’t publicly criticized you, your office, or other election officials.

Instead, we’ve tried to work cooperatively with everybody.

Consulted with them.

Worked diligently behind the scenes to resolve questions and differences.

But if this is how you’re going to treat us, I guess we’ll have to switch to the “Mad Dog Mattis Rule” …

“No better friend, no worse enemy.”

That’s not a threat.  It’s a fair warning.  Unlike what you gave us yesterday.

And as Michael Corleone told his brother in The Godfather, this isn’t personal, it’s business.

I’m going to wait 72 hours to give you a chance to address what you did.

I’m on a rare four-day mini-vacation with my wife and kids – catching the three-game Dodges/Orioles series in Los Angeles – and will be back on Friday.

(Thanks again for the tix, S.R.!)

When I return – as Nancy Pelosi (allegedly) said to Joe Biden – we can do this the easy way, or we can do this the hard way.

When you and I ran into each other a couple weeks ago, I requested a personal meeting with you.

I asked if you had my cell number.

You assured me you did.

So you know how to reach me.

If you choose confrontation over cooperation, that will be your choice, not mine.

And to our supporters of the Pigpen Project…

     “Si vis pacem, para bellum.”

Or as Maximus said to Quintas in that riveting opening scene in Gladiator:..

     “At my signal, unleash hell.”
