EDITOR’S NOTE: I’m about to board our ship, so I’m cheating and publishing an op-ed this morning by our good friend and true conservative, Annie Black.
Frankly, I couldn’t have said it better…

Stand for What’s Right – Even if You’re the Only One Standing
(Annie Black) – Let’s talk about something rare in politics: backbone.
The kind of courage that doesn’t bow to pressure from party bosses, lobbyists or the media.
The kind that stands tall when everyone else sits down.
That kind of courage has a name: Assemblywoman Jill Dickman.
In a sea of go-along votes, she took a stand.
The Nevada Assembly voted on Senate Bill 451, a bill to extend a Clark County property tax originally passed by voters in 1996.
Back then, voters approved the tax with a sunset clause. It was set to expire in July 2027, unless voters chose to renew it.
SB451 eliminates that voter requirement and extends the tax to 2057.
No vote.
No consent.
Just lawmakers deciding they know best.
Only one person in the entire Assembly said “No.”
Assemblywoman Jill Dickman.
In Chuck Muth’s column, Standing Alone, Standing Tall, he wrote:
“On a 41-1 vote, the Nevada State Assembly voted to break the promise and eliminate the requirement that voters approve extending the tax after 2027.”
The one vote against the bill was cast by Assemblyman Jill Dickman.”
He went on to call her vote “the only principled one.”
Assemblywoman Dickman explained her position on the Assembly floor:
“I have been a strong supporter of law enforcement my entire life. But I am also a strong supporter of transparency, accountability, and promises made to the voters.”
And she drove it home with this:
“If you’re going to tax people more, or longer, you better have the courage to ask them first.”
I’ve stood next to Assemblywoman Dickman in that building before.

She doesn’t back down from a fight—especially when it’s on behalf of Nevada taxpayers.
And I’ll tell you what – she didn’t stand alone – not in spirit.
Many of us are supporting and cheering you on, Assemblywoman Dickman.
You are the kind of leader Nevada needs more of.
Tough, honest, respectful of the people—and unwilling to trade integrity for popularity.
She also crochets on the Assembly floor and raises the cutest show pups 🙂
If you’re tired of elected officials who forget who they work for, take heart.
We’ve still got a few fighters in there.
Assemblywoman Jill Dickman is one of them.
Want to send her a quick note of thanks?
You can email her at: Jill.Dickman@asm.state.nv.us
Tell her you appreciate her standing up for the people—even when she had to stand alone.
Until next time – Be like Jill.
Stand for what’s right, even if you’re the only one standing.
