As a business man, I find this somewhat skewed toward the unreal. How many billions of dollars in flowers, candy and other perishables would be removed from this next week.
Valentine’s Day spending this year is expected to total nearly $26 billion, with a record $14.2 billion spent on loved ones, according to an annual survey by the National Retail Federation.
The survey showed that the most popular gifts, ranked in order, were candy, greeting cards, flowers, an evening out, jewelry, clothing, and gift cards. Consumers expect to spend $185 on average.
Overall, 53% of consumers said they plan to celebrate in some way, with young people being the most enthusiastic. You can see the full survey results here.
