Rep. Andy Ogles says federal Homeland Security and Judiciary committees will investigate Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell for allegedly aiding illegal immigration.
The move follows O’Connell’s sharp criticism of a May ICE operation that arrested nearly 200 people, including some with gang ties.
At a Monday press conference, Ogles announced that the Department of Homeland Security is probing whether O’Connell misused federal funds in a “criminal enterprise.” See press conference footage here. Ogles claims the mayor’s actions—and possibly city funds—may have supported criminal activity, but Metro officials deny wrongdoing.
