Postal Workers Stealing Mail

U.S. postal workers are stealing mail, and the U.S. Postal Service Inspector General blames insufficient internal controls and active recruitment of workers by criminals.

According to a USPS investigation, organizations are actively recruiting postal workers to steal checks, credit cards, and other valuables, with recent cases including two workers charged with stealing over $1 million in business checks from facilities in Virginia and North Carolina.

The investigation found contributing factors include a lack of policies on personal belongings in the workplace, high supervisor vacancy rates, and inadequate theft awareness training.
