A federal judge blocked a contested Texas law allowing the state to arrest illegal immigrants, just ahead of politically charged visits to the Texas border by President Biden and Donald Trump Thursday.
The judge said he believed the Texas law would be found unconstitutional because it conflicted with federal authority, and he temporarily halted the state from enforcing it while the case continues in the courts.
Meanwhile, President Biden traveled to Brownsville and called on Republicans to pass a border security bill that came attached to aid for Ukraine and Israel.
Trump went to Eagle Pass, where Texas has put up barbed wire, and blamed Biden for the immigration crisis, saying the U.S. “is being overrun by Biden migrant crime.”
