Republican Gabe Evans won Colorado’s 8th Congressional District after Democratic incumbent Yadira Caraveo conceded Sunday, helping the GOP move towards control of Congress.
The close race, with a narrow 2,596-vote margin, flips the district to Republican control in otherwise blue Colorado. The district spans most of Adams County and parts of Weld and Larimer counties.
The result helped push the GOP closer to majority control of the House. Republicans were reported by one media outlet late Monday to have won the 218 seats they needed for a majority.
Evans expressed gratitude for the win and thanked Caraveo for her service, pledging to fight for a “better direction” for Coloradans.
