Republican leadership looks to force local party voters into open primaries.

This week, despite the cry of Republicans all across the state seeking support, the best attempt in recent years to close primary elections failed in committee. The Senate State and Local Government Committee shamefully could not even take the time to hear the bill by not motioning for a second.

Where are we in Tennessee when it comes to making the effort to secure our elections? Well, Senator Jack Johnson and his new, special interest-elected co-sponsor, Representative Lee Reeves, are running what we all know as the Caucus Bill (HB 855 / SB 799). If passed, this bill would remove the ability of the County Republican Party to take action if they choose to host a convention/caucus to keep Democrats out of our county elections.

The opposition says that we want to disenfranchise voters. What is the truth? We, like President Trump, have been advocating now for 5 years for:

Same day voting
Paper ballots
Voter ID
Proof of Citizenship

You know what we think? Like President Trump, we think allowing Democrats to participate in our primary elections to water down conservative values is what disenfranchises EVERY REPUBLICAN VOTER in Tennessee. If the opposition continues with this false narrative, arguing for voter convenience, they must also acknowledge that President Trump also desires to disenfranchise voters with his call for same-day voting and paper ballots. Do you know what a caucus is? It’s same-day voting.
