Running Out Of Words

Erick-Woods Erickson

When C.S. Lewis was asked by a young fan for writing advice, Lewis’s final word of caution to the youngster was this: “Don’t use words too big for the subject. Don’t say ‘infinitely’ when you mean ‘very.’ Otherwise, you will have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite.”

The timeless advice from Lewis in the early 20th century is more prescient now than ever before. For nearly a decade, opponents of Donald Trump have used every hyperbolic adjective and comparison to convince the public to stop Donald Trump. The result is two failed assassination attempts and a Republican Party that has fully embraced the left’s villain.

These same opponents are now making the identical mistake regarding Trump’s cabinet picks. If every single cabinet pick is fundamentally an evil, unqualified Trump loyalist, then the description applies to none of them. The Democrats have no words left unused and the American public is beginning to notice.
