Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown and the City of Spokane announced on August 7 that they entered a formal agreement with Compassionate Addiction Treatment (C.A.T.) to move its sobering center and behavioral health services to the middle of our neighborhood (1819 E. Springfield Avenue) – mere blocks from Stevens Elementary School.

THE FACTS:
1. Mayor Brown and the City sought NO input or dialogue with anyone who lives or works in the neighborhood. Nor did they alert anyone in the neighborhood that this property was even under consideration.

2. We all remember the complete havoc caused during 18 months of Jewels Helping Hands operating out of the same proposed C.A.T. building. We know firsthand the impacts of a chronic nuisance neighbor on our residents, schools, parks, and businesses.

3. Our neighborhood is already home to SIX non-profit service providers—including the TRAC facility—and putting C.A.T. here will put an inequitable burden on our neighborhood.

4. Relocating C.A.T. to our neighborhood will bring with it the same crime, vandalism, camping, trash, and safety concerns that are present at its current location (Division St. and Second Ave.)

The hardworking families, residents and workers of the Chief Garry Park Neighborhood deserve better! We deserve to have our voices heard!! The complete lack of transparency by our elected officials and undue burden on our neighborhood is unacceptable and must be stopped.
