Senate Adopts Spending Plan

The U.S. Senate adopted a budget resolution on Saturday, putting Congress one step closer to enacting President Trump’s legislative agenda.

The resolution still needs to be adopted by the House before the two chambers can begin negotiations on a final bill.

The spending plan aims to make tax cuts enacted during President Trump’s first term permanent, and raise the country’s borrowing limit by $5 trillion to avoid a debt default. The measure also would beef up border security, expand oil and gas drilling, and increase defense spending.

The debate over the proposal revealed the biggest looming fight between Republicans, who control both the Senate and House, may be over Medicaid.
