MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – 17-year-old Adrien Prewitt lost his life during a setup that turned deadly.

On February 2, officers were called to LaPaloma Street in South Memphis and found Prewitt shot multiple times; he was later pronounced dead.

Court records show Machaela Shelton went to the home to visit but immediately started texting someone.

Investigators later found she was texting someone named “Dee” on her phone.

The texts between the two detailed how many people were inside the home, what they had, and a plan to lure them outside by taking them to the store.

After a discussion between Shelton, Prewitt, and another woman to go a store, Shelton went outside first and then Prewitt went outside to get in a car.

That’s when multiple shots were fired… two men were seen near Prewitt, one took his gun, and then ran.

The “Dee” Shelton was texting… was later identified as Darreone McDowell.

He told investigators Shelton created the plan to rob Prewitt… but Shelton’s ex-boyfriend, D’Andre Ashby, wanted to rob Prewitt of his gun.

Shelton and McDowell are both behind bars facing multiple charges, including first-degree murder.
