Some “Muthings” on Nevada’s CD3 Race

(Chuck Muth) – I’m leaning more and more towards Marty O’Donnell in Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District GOP primary race.

I understand a lot of conservative Republicans really like Drew Johnson.

But again, my focus this cycle is on nominating the “most conservative candidate who can win” the general election.  And I have serious reservations about Drew’s ability to do that.

Solid philosophical conservative, but his political instincts and abilities are suspect (he lost a county commission race against the most corrupt Democrat in Nevada in 2022).

To learn more about the race, click on this link to an article that came out today.  My favorite quote from Marty was…

“People seem to want to go to Washington because they want a career.  They want political power. They’re looking for influence or money. None of those things are interesting to me.”

Like Donald Trump, he doesn’t need the job and doesn’t need the money.

In response to the article, one of Marty’s followers on Twitter asked today why he was running.  His response…

“I was 13 years old in 1968 and watched the Democrat convention in Chicago. The country seemed on the verge of insanity back then and it feels kinda the same now.  I want to be a voice of reason and sanity in D.C. at this time.”

Can’t argue with that.

Marty’s been extremely successful in private business and has put $500,000 of his own money into the race while swearing off special interest PAC donations.

He describes himself as a political conservative in the mold of Friedrich Hayek, William F. Buckley, Milton Friedman, and Ronald Reagan.  Good company to keep!

Philosophically, his positions on issues “are rooted in a belief in a small federal government with low taxes and limited regulation.”

He channels George Washington in describing government as a “necessary evil.”

And “he’s more interested in free market approaches than government interventions to support families.”

Plus, he’s “voted for Republicans in every election, including Trump twice,” and “plans to vote for Trump a third time this fall.”  And he’s inked the Taxpayer Protection Pledge.

Conservative enough for me!

He’s been endorsed by Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo, and sources back in DC believe he’s the strongest possible general election candidate.  If he’s the nominee, they’ll likely play big here.  If not, they’ll likely shift their resources to another race.

But I’m still not 100% there yet.  Marty’s a first-time candidate and I want to see how this primary race plays out over the next two weeks. That said, if I was forced to vote early today, I’d cast my ballot for Mr. O’Donnell.

We NEED to win this seat and Marty O’Donnell appears to be the most conservative candidate who can WIN in November.

EARLY VOTING UPDATE

In Assembly District 11 (Clark), I received a voice-mail from GOP candidate Anthony Manesa advising that he has withdrawn his candidacy even though his name is still on the ballot.  The other Republican candidate is Jeffrey Lustick.

FreedomFest is Right Around the Corner

If you’re a free market political junkie who hasn’t attended FreedomFest in the past, you don’t know what you’re missing.  I actually prefer it over CPAC – though CPAC gets more media attention.

And what a treat this year!

Organizers have landed the world’s most sought-after speaker – the new libertarian president of Argentina, Javier Milei – to deliver a keynote address.  And if you’re not familiar with this enemy of socialism who is transforming his country’s government, consider these two quotes…

  • “The state does not create wealth; the state destroys it. The state can give you nothing because it produces nothing, and when it attempts it, it does so poorly.”

  • “If printing money would end poverty, printing diplomas would end stupidity.”

Yep, he’s definitely one of us!

In addition, Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo will be delivering a welcoming address to conference attendees – a stark contrast to our previous governor who drove Freedom Fest out of Las Vegas during COVID.

Freedom Fest will be held July 10-13, 2024 at the Caesar’s Forum in Las Vegas.  Click here for more information.

And if you’re a Nevada resident, you’ll save $100 off the registration fee.  Just click here.  And then for “Select a registrant type,” click on “Local/Nevada” from the drop-down menu.

At the end you’ll have to enter your zip code to get the discount, and be prepared to show a Nevada photo ID when checking in.  See ya there!

How to Sign the Voter ID Petition

As you probably have heard, the Nevada Supreme Court has approved the ballot initiative which, if passed, would require voters to present a photo ID before casting their ballots.

The organizers have until June 26 to collect and submit signatures.  And since there’s zero chance the Democrat-controlled Legislature will do anything on this common sense issue, getting it on the ballot is the only way to force change.

If you haven’t signed yet, Courtney Holland of the Keystone Corporation – a pro-business organization in Nevada (unlike the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce) – has set up a website where you can enter your email address and a volunteer will reach out to get the petition into your hands.

Calling All Keyboard Warriors

Not everyone can donate a big check to a political campaign.  Not everyone can walk door-to-door.  Not everyone wants to call complete strangers and urge them to vote for a candidate.

But if you have a Twitter/X account, you can quickly and easily become an effective keyboard warrior on social media.  To get started, all you have to do is follow certain folks who are already active on Twitter/X and “like,” “re-tweet,” or “quote tweet” them.

This creates a communication “echo chamber” so the folks you’re following have their posts seen by the folks following you. And you don’t have to have a big following to make a big difference.

Assemblywoman Danielle Gallant (@GallantD23) has helpfully provided a list of accounts for good Nevada conservatives and Republicans to follow…
