The Northeastern region of the U.S. has the highest rate of car accidents, according to a new study, with four New England states ranked among the top five.
The crash rate, based on National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data and accidents per total drivers, ranked Massachusetts No. 1 with a 6.1% crash rate. New Hampshire ranked second with a 5.8% crash rate, followed by Rhode Island at 5.6%, Maine at 5.4%, and Nebraska at 5.1%.
The study also found Gen Z had the highest accident rate at 6.84%, while baby boomers had the lowest at 3.12%. Cars by Kia, Mazda, Chevrolet, Jeep, and Volkswagen were the most frequently involved in crashes, according to the results. Michigan recorded the lowest crash rate of any state at 1.7%.
