Syrian Military Confirms Rebels Enter Aleppo

The Syrian military said on Saturday that dozens of its troops had been killed during an insurgent attack in northwestern Syria.

Rebels entered the government-held city of Aleppo led by the Islamist Hayat Tahrir al-Sham in a surprise attack that began earlier this week.

Syria’s armed forces said in a statement Saturday that it has redeployed and is preparing for a counterattack to absorb the large attack on Aleppo and save lives.

There are currently about 900 American soldiers in Syria as part of a mission to defeat the Islamic State.
