Tennessee AG Sues Over Hispanic College Grant

Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti has filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Education, claiming one of its federal grant programs is discriminatory.

The suit targets the Hispanic Serving Institution program, which funds schools where at least 25% of the student body is Hispanic. Skrmetti argues this excludes schools like the University of Memphis—61% minority but not majority Hispanic—calling it unconstitutional and unfair. The state is seeking to block the program’s ethnic enrollment requirement entirely.
