Gov. Bill Lee signed the Education Freedom Act into law on Wednesday evening, marking a significant school choice win for Tennessee families and students.
The law, which takes effect immediately ahead of the 2025-2026 school year, grants families universal school choice regardless of income.
The $500 million program will provide 20,000 students with approximately $7,000 in public funds to cover private school tuition.
The bill passed the Tennessee House by a narrow 54-44 vote and was then approved by the Senate by a 20-13 vote.
