The first bill was officially filed for the 114th General Assembly, and should we be surprised that it is the Governor’s key initiative, Tennessee’s Education Freedom Act of 2025—HB1. We have been anticipating the new bill’s language after it was unsuccessful in the 113th General Assembly, and here it is.

The bill is sponsored by Rep. William Lamberth and SB1 by Sen. Jack Johnson. It was filed Wednesday, November 6th, in the General Assembly, with Governor Bill Lee calling it a “game-changer” for school choice in our state. But what’s really in this bill? The Governor and special interest groups keep pushing the narrative that Tennesseans want school vouchers. It is the top priority for Governor Bill Lee.

Yet, vouchers were on the ballot last night in Kentucky. In a state that went for Trump with the same veracity as TN, the measure FAILED.

The many voters who stood with President Trump, also rejected giving their tax dollars to private schools.

We just completed a survey with over 3,800 responses from ALL 95 counties, which shows that only 34% of Republicans in TN support school vouchers.
