THE EXIT TOLL

There are three main benefits to President Donald Trump’s mass deportation plan. One, most obviously, scores of illegals are sent home or — if they have criminal or gang histories — to El Salvador’s CECOT prison. Two, fewer people are incentivized to cross the border illegally. Three, people who are here illegally may self-deport to avoid being picked up by ICE.

The Associated Press reported in January that many illegals had begun the process of self-deportation in anticipation of Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration. The trend continued in March when the president ended a Biden-era parole program that gave protected status to illegal immigrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela.

That same month, Trump’s DHS replaced the Biden-era “CBP One” app with a “CBP Home” app that gave illegals an easier process for self-deporting.

Now, DHS is looking to speed up — and further incentivize — use of CBP Home.

The Trump administration will offer illegal aliens who leave the country voluntarily a $1,000 check — plus airfare out of the country.

It may initially seem insane that taxpayers are being asked to reward people who entered the country illegally, but the math shakes out in the program’s favor.

The average cost to arrest, detain, and deport an illegal alien (per DHS)?

 $17,000

The average cost for a self-removal stipend plus a plane ticket?

$4,500

Speeding up self-deportations and saving DHS time and resources?

Priceless.

Overall, the program is expected to save taxpayers more than 70% for each illegal immigrant deported.

“If you are here illegally, self-deportation is the best, safest and most cost effective way to leave the United States to avoid arrest,” DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said in a statement.

The official website also notes, “The CBP Home program lets eligible aliens return home as regular travelers—without arrest, detention, or restraints. It’s a safe, orderly alternative that provides assistance and flexibility, not fear.”

My favorite part, though, is the warning of what will happen if eligible aliens choose not to self-deport:

“If you are in the United States illegally, ICE will continue to prioritize your removal. This is a process that often results in detention and rapid removal, and it will result in a three-year, ten-year, or permanent ban on visa acceptance due to your unlawful presence.”

Come on, illegal immigrants, take the money and run!
