The Jackson City Council met Tuesday morning on December 2nd for its first meeting of the year 2024.
The meeting, at it beginning, recognizing participants in the Trash for Cash program.
Mayor Conger started by stating…. “So we started trash for cash two years ago. That was a presentation from our Youth Council at the time. It’s any group that wants to raise money on behalf of a non-profit, a non-profit, or not just a 501(c)(3), but you know a church group, softball team, whatever can do that and do a mile for $100.”
Is that a novel idea or what? I going to leave this idea and I would like you to think about it….. We will come back to that idea at another time.
The City Council also voted on a contract extension with Stadium 1 Software LLC for the Sportsplex.
Mayor Conger stated without justification that this should help them save some money.
“So we have a software system. It’s an extension of the contract that they have. It’s an all-service system from tickets, to gates, to concession stand, and gift shop, everything like that. I actually think it is saving us $7,500 this year because it’s doing a flat fee instead of a percentage of sales.”
The council also voted on what was the purchase of eight paratransit vans for the Jackson Transit Authority, again without financial justification.
The mayor stated:
“I think it will improve. They’re replacement vans, so I don’t know if they’re increasing the number of the fleet. But some of those vans have to go into rotation every so many hundred thousand miles or so to replace those vans to make sure that we’re providing that transportation in a safe manner.”
If I had presented that to any financial body without even a guess as to it’s worthiness, I would be looking for another job.
