Many Trump supporters have gone from “he’s playing 4D Chess” to “these picks don’t really matter.” But being in the line of presidential succession matters. More so, it was through the Labor Secretary that COVID vaccine mandates, employment shutdowns, etc. happened.
The Labor Secretary is a vitally important role.
Donald Trump’s Labor Secretary may be an attempt to shift labor votes to the GOP, but it is not a smart move.
The Labor Secretary pick is being celebrated by the SEIU, the National Education Association, and the American Federation of Teachers. It is no wonder why.
Donald Trump’s Labor nominee has supported amnesty in every way, shape, and form. She’ll have a great deal of personal say in regulations related to employment of illegal aliens and the inspection of businesses that are suspected of hiring illegal aliens.
She has a record of leniency towards the hiring and use of illegal aliens in the work force and has, again, supported the DREAM Act, opposed Trump’s efforts to shut down Obama era DREAM regulations, and supports giving amnesty to individuals who are in the country illegally. She has also supported Biden era loosening of border security.
She also supports expanded union participation of government workers. Chavez-Deremer has repeatedly been the Republican vote for Democrats’ repeated attempts to force all government employees into government unions. She has even supported the right to strike as a government employee.
Chavez-Deremer has also sought to roll back free market protections in the workforce. She has, again, been the most reliable Republican vote for Democrat efforts to end right-to-work legislation. She has supported union efforts to curb employer preferences for right-to-work states.
Putting Chavez-Deremer into the Department of Labor is causing Democrats to cheer and that should be a warning sign to Republicans. She’s a terrible pick and she is a pick that matters. The Labor Secretary has enormous power over work force regulations, including healthcare regulations. And Chavez-Deremer has supported vaccine mandates and a laundry list of other terrible policy choices.
