TN AG Pushes Back on AI Regulation Ban

Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti

Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti is spearheading opposition to a federal amendment that would block states from regulating artificial intelligence.

Skrmetti joined 36 other attorneys general in a letter urging Congress to reject a federal budget amendment that includes a 10-year ban on state-level AI regulation.

The group warns the ban would erase protections in hundreds of current and pending state laws and leave Americans vulnerable to unchecked Big Tech practices. Skrmetti argued that states have played a vital role in defending consumer rights and privacy, calling the proposal a “guarantee” of future harm.
