A police officer and a suspect were killed in a shooting on Saturday afternoon in McNairy County, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI).
On Sunday, Selmer Police identified the fallen officer as Rick Finley. Finley was a part-time officer with the Selmer Police Department and a full-time deputy with the McNairy County Sheriff’s Office.
The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Daniel Holmes, was involved in the incident that began shortly after 3 p.m. when Selmer officers responded to reports of a “suspicious person” outside a residence on New Bethel Road.
According to TBI, Holmes opened fire on one of the officers, fatally wounding Finley. A second officer arrived on the scene and returned fire, killing Holmes.
