Tornadoes Rip Through Oklahoma City Area

At least 11 people were injured and hospitalized early Sunday when a swarm of tornadoes hit the Oklahoma City area, damaging homes and toppling power lines.

The National Weather Service estimated that between six and 12 twisters touched down during a four-hour period starting late Saturday night, rating the tornadoes as EF-3 and EF-1.

Tornado warnings were issued, including one that prompted shelter-in-place orders at the University of Oklahoma’s Norman campus. Authorities reported significant damage in communities such as Choctaw and Newcastle, with more severe weather forecast for Sunday afternoon. Watch a video of the aftermath here.
