Trump tears into FBI director who questioned if ex-prez was struck by bullet during assassination attempt

Donald Trump tore into FBI Director Christopher Wray Thursday after the bureau head raised questions about whether the former president was actually struck by a bullet when a would-be assassin opened fire at his campaign rally earlier this month.

“FBI Director Christopher Wray told Congress yesterday that he wasn’t sure if I was hit by shrapnel, glass, or a bullet (the FBI never even checked!), but he was sure that Crooked Joe Biden was physically and cognitively ‘uneventful’ – Wrong!” Trump wrote on Truth Social, getting in a dig at President Biden as well.

Wray was answering questions during a House Judiciary Committee meeting on Wednesday when he said there was uncertainty about what caused the Republican presidential nominee’s ear wound.

“With respect to former President Trump, there’s some question about whether or not it’s a bullet or shrapnel that hit his ear,” he said.

He was responding to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) who had asked about the eight shots and bullets fired by the 20-year-old gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks at the Butler, Pa. campaign rally on July 13.

But the ex-president maintained that he had been struck by a bullet while standing at the podium during the outdoor rally.

“There was no glass, there was no shrapnel. The hospital called it a ‘bullet wound to the ear,’ and that is what it was,” he wrote.

Trump — who appointed Wray to lead the bureau during his presidency — claimed the FBI director’s remarks prove that “he knows nothing about the terrorists and other criminals pouring into our Country at record levels.”

Here’s the latest on the assassination attempt against Donald Trump:

“No wonder the once storied FBI has lost the confidence of America!” he added.

The FBI is probing what exactly struck Trump’s ear to cause the damage during the shooting, the New York Times reported Thursday.

Agents with the bureau’s shooting reconstruction team are reportedly examining metal fragments and other debris recovered from the stage area in its aftermath.
