A federal jury has decided that former President Trump must pay E. Jean Carroll $83.3 million in damages.
Carroll says that Trump forced himself on her in 1996—a claim that he’s vehemently denied. A previous trial, which Trump did not attend, concluded that he was liable for sexual abuse and defamation.
Trump did attend the latest trial (which would determine how much he was liable for) and he had several run-ins with Judge Lewis A. Kaplan, who threatened Trump after he said “witch hunt” and “con job” within earshot of jurors.
At one point during yesterday’s proceedings, Trump walked out with the Secret Service in tow. After the ruling, he had this to say:
“Absolutely ridiculous! I fully disagree with both verdicts, and will be appealing this whole Biden Directed Witch Hunt focused on me and the Republican Party.”
