Denver officials have launched an investigation into potential election law violations after the Secretary of State’s Office mistakenly published voting machine passwords before the Nov. 5 general election.
The list of passwords was accessible for five months before the office realized the error.
Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold’s office reset passwords for affected machines, spanning 34 counties, by Oct. 31. Griswold has assured the public that the incident did not compromise election security.
Gov. Jared Polis has called for an independent investigation while the Secretary of State’s Office expressed support for the investigation.
