This is the Mayor of Macon, GA. He is lying to a constituent.
The speed camera law in Georgia does not mandate those cameras. Instead, local governments get to apply for the cameras. To claim the state forced these cameras on local communities is a lie. The local governments could get rid of them today.
In fact, in Middle Georgia, there is a rumor swirling that the local government is about to put these cameras on a major highway near the local Robins Air Force Base not for school safety, but to make money off military personnel late for work. The local school in question where the cameras will go is offset from the road, fenced in, and has zero pedestrian or even bus traffic because it is a private school.
But there is a lot of traffic headed towards the Air Force Base and that is a lot of revenue for the local government to not spend on school safety — targeting our soldiers and airmen to pay fines for local politicians.
You can stop this. If you are from Georgia, click here to tell your state senator to kill the cameras.
