Wildfires Rage Across Carolinas

At least 175 wildfires have erupted across North and South Carolina, beginning overnight Saturday. Many remained uncontained through Sunday.

The largest fire has consumed over 1,600 acres of the Carolina Forest near Myrtle Beach, prompting evacuation orders for several neighborhoods.

South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster issued a state of emergency on Sunday and issued a statewide burning ban.

As of Sunday, no structures had succumbed to the blaze, and no injuries had been reported, as first responders continued working to control the fires.

The South Carolina Forestry Commission listed 182 fires that have burned more than 4,200 acres across South Carolina over the past week as of Sunday morning. Red icons indicate active fires and green icons indicate reported fires.
