Elon Musk’s social media platform X (formerly Twitter) filed a lawsuit on Tuesday against the World Federation of Advertisers and several major companies, including Mars and CVS Health, accusing them of unlawfully conspiring to boycott the site and causing it to lose billions in advertising revenue.
The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Texas, alleges that the advertisers acted against their own economic interests in a conspiracy that violated U.S. antitrust law.
X says it has implemented advertiser safety measures similar to other social media platforms, designed to prevent ads from appearing next to inappropriate content.
It is seeking unspecified damages and a court order against continued efforts to withhold ad dollars.
