Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s popularity continues to sink to new lows, with Jagmeet Singh, leader of the New Democratic Party (NDP), calling for his resignation yesterday, stating in a post on X:
It’s time for Justin Trudeau to resign. Liberals are fighting each other — when Canadians need a Prime Minister who will fight for them. It is more important than ever for people to stand together to fight the threat of Conservative cuts.
Pierre Poilievre, leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, also called on Trudeau to resign, but stated Singh’s NDP is refusing to vote for an election:
The pressure on Trudeau to resign follows the abrupt resignation of Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland yesterday after a disagreement in how to respond to tariffs proposed by U.S. President-elect Donald Trump. In response to Freeland’s resignation, Trump jokingly referring to Canada as a state, and Trudeau as its governor, stating in a post on Truth Social:
The Great State of Canada is stunned as the Finance Minister resigns, or was fired, from her position by Governor Justin Trudeau. Her behavior was totally toxic, and not at all conducive to making deals which are good for the very unhappy citizens of Canada. She will not be missed!!!
