SPLOST stands for Special Purpose Local Options Sales tax and is a 1-percent special tax used for road and public safety.

Georgia Law requires voters to re-approve SPLOTS every 5 to 6 years since its initial approval in 1994.

“This would take effect July 1st; we’re currently in what we call the 2019 SPLOT cycle,” said John Pless, PIO of Catoosa County Government. “It expires at the end of June.”

The special sales tax would collect up to 96-million-dollars from residents and tourists.

“The benefit of SPLOST funds has been to Catoosa County citizens is that it’s allowed to critical public safety and critical infrastructure needs without having to rely on property tax,” said Pless.
