(Chuck Muth) – Just an FYI, I’m in the middle of a big writing project and am pretty much sequestered for another couple weeks trying to get it done by the end of this month.
Kinda bad timing since a LOT of “stuff” is going on right now. But I did want to take a little time this morning to weigh in on developments in the GOP’s effort to protect Gov. Joe Lombardo’s veto in the State Senate.
As a quick refresher, Republicans are on the short end of the stick in the legislative upper house, 13-8. And if they lose just one net seat, they’ll be in a super-minority – meaning Democrats will have the 2/3 votes they need to override gubernatorial vetoes.
Why is this so important? Because the left-wing of the Dem party is so intent on turning Nevada into East California that Gov. Lombardo was forced to issue a record-high 75 vetoes in the last session.
And about half of those vetoes will come up for an override vote at the start of the 2025 legislative session. Bad bills you thought were dead could be resurrected and enacted over the governor’s objections.
Politically-speaking, Republicans are in bad shape with this. While the GOP should hold the seat currently held by Sen. Scott Hammond, two other seats are in serious danger of flipping: Sen. Heidi Gansert’s seat in Washoe County and Sen. Carrie Buck’s seat in Clark County.
If Republicans lose both seats, they’ll have to flip the only two Democrat seats where they at least have a remote chance. That would be the Senate seats currently held by Majority Leader Nicole Cannibizzaro and cop-hating Sen. Dallas Harris in Clark County.
Republicans will actually be in good shape in the Harris race after Lori Rogich dispatches a senseless challenger in the GOP primary. And a couple days ago, Battle Born Republican Women’s Club president Jill Douglass threw her hat in the ring against Cannibizzaro.
I’m meeting with her tomorrow to go over her campaign before conducting a recruitment/training workshop for Assembly District 8 candidate Kelly Chapman’s volunteers.
To summarize: If Senate Republicans lose two seats in November, they MUST pick up two seats, including Jill’s, to protect the governor’s vetoes. It’s …what do you call it again? … oh, yeah, basic math.
Anyway, on Tuesday Jill made her announcement that she was throwing her hat in the ring to a group of friends and allies in an email…
“This is perhaps the hardest race in Nevada as the incumbent, Nicole Cannizzaro, is the Senate Majority Leader and has the full financial support of the Woke Democratic machine. However, based on her voting record and extreme positions, I believe she is vulnerable. … With your help, we will prevail and help protect Lombardo’s veto power.”
I was a recipient of the announcement – and the responses to Jill were almost universally in favor of her candidacy.
Except one.
A guy supposedly named Richard Frederick was also on the email chain and responded with this…
“What does that race have to do with the veto power?”
Duh.
Now, if you don’t know who Richard Frederick is, he’s another California transplant with no record of activism in Nevada GOP politics but thinks he can come here and buy a seat in the Legislature and *save* us hicks from ourselves.
Which seat?
Sen. Carrie Buck’s seat.
That’s right. He’s inexplicably challenging a very vulnerable sitting incumbent Republican in the GOP primary – a critical Republican seat that must be held.
And there’s something just not quite right about this guy, actually bordering on sleazy.
I’m hearing his real name is Richard Auchmoody II, and he also posts GQ-like photos on social media under the fake name Rich Fayden.
It also appears Cali Dick didn’t move to Nevada until March 2022 and didn’t even bother to vote here in the last election – though considering how many different names he uses, I guess it’s possible.
In fact, I’m hearing that while he’s running under the name “Richard Frederick,” he’s actually registered under the name “Richard Auchmoody II.”
Yeah, totally on the up-and-up. Nothing to see here.
In January, Cali Dick reported *raising* $202,424.07 for the race. However, only $100 of it was actually donated by…you know, a donor. He *lent* his campaign the remaining $202,324.07.
Like I said, he’s just trying to buy the seat. He has virtually no financial support among Nevada Republicans who understand how important it is to hold this seat and protect the governor’s vetoes.
Anyway, in response to his attempt to pooh-pooh Jill’s effort to take out Cannibizzaro, I replied to him and the group yesterday…
“How can you be running for the State Senate and NOT know what this race has to do with the protecting the governor’s veto power?”
Well, that tuned up Cali Dick and got under the snowflake’s thin skin. He (foolishly) responded with…
“I don’t see that seat as having anything to do with the veto power. I have yet to hear anything about that from anyone until this email. At no point has anyone spoke about that seat being instrumental to the veto power.
“Nice to meet you as well, you can lose the attitude, it won’t serve you well moving forward, at least not with me.
“Maybe we should meet up face to face and you can better explain to me, SOMEONE who is clearly clueless in your eyes, how this seat controls the veto power. 725-500-6912, anytime Chucky!”
Oh, Dicky, Dicky, Dicky.
You’ve obviously confused me with somebody who cares about ingratiating himself to a Cali transplant who not only doesn’t understand the political landscape in Nevada but can’t even do simple math.
But I’ll tell ya what, sport…
